Orlando History

The name of the city of Orlando is believed to be derived from the name of late soldier Orlando Reeves. He battled a memorable battle against Seminole tribe during the year 1837-38. And soon after his death, the encompassing area went on to be known as ‘Orlando’s grave’ and later ‘Orlando’.

Much prior to these events, the area was known as Jernigan. It was more of a rural backwater by the time it experienced civil war and 1875 witnessed the reconstruction phase of the historic city. From that time onwards, the next 2 decades were the gilded era for Orlando.

In recent times, many high tech companies have started shifting their base to the city, as it is found pretty nearer to Kennedy Space Center, and many stations and base camps are very easily accessible from this place. All apart from these compounding improvements; the significant turn in its history took place in the year 1965 when Walt Disney Corporation built Walt world over there. The metropolitan encompasses the city of Seminole, Osceola, Orange and Lake Counties. As of now, the city is one of the top most tourism destinations and is well connected to all parts of the world.
